The Shrew... Is rightfully named, since it is a shrewd little animal that is very cunning, very smart, very good at surviving. And can set you up by making you think it is so weak and cute, and then eat you alive with it's set of needle like teeth. And you would have a very hard time locating the shrew, because it is smaller than a mouse and even tinier than a door mouse. So you have to be careful the next time you are in your yard and there are some plants or some bushes, you might just find the shrew running around.

Although the shrew only weighs a few grams, it can eat meat of all kinds. Because it has a mouth full of poison, in it's saliva that is, and can kill an animal three times it's size within just a few minutes. Also it can eat twice it's body weight daily in meat and can also defend itself if needs be. And even other little shrews are not safe, because survival is a must for this little animal, and it will devour it's own kind if need be.
And the shrew is not a rodent like the mice as most people would believe, and this little mammal have very tiny eyes, which causes it to have poor vision. But don't let that poor vision fool you because they make up for it with their senses. And if you ever have a problem with losing weight, then you can learn a thing or two from the shrew, because this tiny little creature can eat, and eat and eat. But never gain weight, because it has a very high metabolic rate which causes it to burn calories just as soon as it is consumed, and this is why as I stated above, it needs to eat twice it's own body weight daily.
Of course you have different kind of shrews, such as the house shrew, the Etruscan shrew, and they are known to live in leaf litter, under snow, in your backyard where there is thick vegetation, and they can also be found in trees scurrying about. And when winter comes they do not hide like the bears do and hibernate, but they can Morph and greatly reduce their needs for eating which can cause them to lose close to 50% of their body weight.
And just like us humans, the shrew is quite territorial, and they do not care to share their space with anyone, and the only time they like company is when it is time to mate. And the female shrew has a very high reproductive system, as it can have as many as 11 litters per year. And the average life span of the shrew is about 30 months.
So the shrew is very ferocious because it needs to be, otherwise it would not survive in this great world of hunters, abusers and violators. As well because it has a very short lifespan, it must make the most out of life and eat as much as it can, even if it means eating it's own kind. James Dazouloute
